Comment on ‘Better Literacy and Numeracy for Children and Young People. A Draft National Plan to Improve Literacy and Numeracy in Schools.’
From: ELSTA
At ELSTA, we are committed to supporting all teachers in their objective to provide a holistic education for students, with specific emphasis on EAL (English as Additional Language) students. We offer training through our regular workshops and access to a valuable network of teachers and resources through our website and annual conference. We also provide training in interculturalism and plurilingualism.
In respect of the Plan's proposals in relation to EAL students (pp. 35-37, sections 5.5 and 5.6), we have a number of comments to make:
Crime Prevention AdviceAn Garda Síochána, with the financial assistance of the Office of the Minister for Integration, has published a number of crime prevention and community safety information sheets for migrants. These sheets provide information on road safety, personal security at home and within the community, advice on securing possession, information about substance abuse as well as useful contacts. They are available in the following languages: French, Latvian, Lithuanian, Mandarin, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian and Spanish at this link: http://www.garda.ie/Controller.aspx?Page=7141 |
